South Coast Repertory Theatre

Architect: Cesar Pelli & Associates

Landscape Architect: Peter Walker and Partners

General Contractor: Snyder Langston

In 1964, South Coast Repertory was established by a band of untested former theatre students launching an artistic odyssey on little more than raw talent and enthusiasm. Architect Cesar Pelli was enlisted for SCR’s latest expansion, which commenced in July 2001. Pelli designed a sweeping new front for SCR, which would incorporate the existing building and the addition. As part of the construction team, Shaw & Sons installed the new Harlequin front entry plaza, which consists of one-foot of miscellaneous crushed base over four feet of structural high load 40 styrofoam over existing box culvert. Part of the plaza is constructed over compacted fill.
