Pechanga Gaming Casino

Owner: Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians

Landscape Architect: Wimmer Yamada & Caughey, Architects

General Contractor: Perini

The landscape theme surrounding the recent expansion continues to focus on native plantings coupled with facilitating access, direction and comfort to visiting patrons.  The numerous walkways and paved areas surrounding the casino expansion contain colorful accents incorporating historic tribal  cultural symbols.  Accents within the  pavement were created by using integral color and special templates depicting different cultural symbols.

Shaw & Sons developed the finishing techniques used to highlight the symbols. The finished product is a timeless combination of art and engineering that will provide permanent reference to the tribe’s rich history and culture. In addition to the concrete paving, two natural spring water features were created at the casino entry to symbolize the importance of water to the region. The word Pechanga means “Dripping Water” in the native language of the tribe.
