Queensway Bay

Owner: City of Long Beach

Landscape Architect: Fong Hart Schneider + Partners, Landscape Architects

General Contractor: Shaw & Sons

Queensway Bay is comprised of 300 acres of prime oceanfront land adjacent to the commercial core of Long Beach. This urban waterfront project is designed to reestablish Long Beach as one of the most popular waterfront destinations in Southern California. With the new world-class Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific on one side of the site, and the recently expanded Long Beach Convention Center on the other, Queensway Bay is perfectly positioned for development of successful retail, entertainment and hotel uses. Within walking distance of Pine Avenue and downtown Long Beach, and the new Pike at Rainbow Harbor retail center, Queensway Bay includes more than 69 acres of dedicated parkland, a Children’s Beach, an Events Park with a 10,000 seat amphitheater, and the world renowned Queen Mary.

Lithocrete® helped us achieve a lot of special effects at our Queensway Bay Project. The centerpiece of the project is Rainbow Harbor, which provides docking for commercial boats and historical vessels. We wanted a nautical theme that takes design elements from the boats and uses them throughout the entire length of the harbor. With Lithocrete®, we were able to incorporate sea shells into the concrete surface, highlighted with colored glass pieces in specific areas. We were impressed with their unique method of blending the materials and concrete together for added durability. Overall, I’d say that Lithocrete® adds both quality craftsmanship and variety to surface paving.
