Pasadena Convention Center

Owner: City of Pasadena

Architect: AECOM

Landscape Architect: Melendrez

General Contractor: Clark Construction

Completed in 2009, the Pasadena Convention Center expansion and renovation project included a new 50,000 square-foot exhibit hall, a 25,000 square-foot ballroom and 8,000 square feet of administrative office space. The Convention Center is seeking to achieve a minimum of LEED Silver certification and was completed by Clark Construction 46days earlier than the original construction schedule.

The paving design of the Pasadena Conference Center Expansion was inspired by the historic Pasadena City Hall. The new entry plan for the Pasadena Auditorium built in 1931, flanked on both ends by new Conference Center buildings, contains ornate patterns of integral color concrete, Lithocrete® and brick. The concrete work by Shaw & Sons had to be precise in its layout so the brick infill would contain full brick modules without cutting. Their skill at matching concrete colors with existing materials is evident with the new Auditorium stairs and the existing balustrade. I appreciated their extra coordination with other contractors to ensure that the entire entry plaza was successfully built as envisioned.
